Since 1982 when the volume of gas supply was at most 26 million cubic meters, the city gas industry in Korea has made such a remarkable progress as to supply 13.7 billion cubic meters of gas to 9.34 million households by 32 city gas companies throughout the country.

With its devotion to achieve the far-reaching goal of making natural gas as a public fuel of the nation while overcoming numerous difficulties during the last two decades, the city gas industry now can finally provide the people with benefit of consuming clean energy. Especially with the completion of nation-wide natural gas pipeline, the industry is expected to continue steady development for the years to come.

Further to this, the city gas industry in Korea, having been reached its maturity, is currently preparing for another leap by launching in to related areas such as gas heat pump, co-generation, etc. In this regard, information on advanced safety management, state-of-the-art technology and product is most important.

In this connection, GAS KOREA has played an important role as an event where gas related companies and personnel from every corner of the world convene and exchange valuable information.

I believe the GAS KOREA 2004 to be held in March next year here in Seoul will sure to be another good opportunity not only for the participating company but also for the related personnel.

I wish all the gas companies and people in the gas arena can take part in the event and gain win-win effect.

Since the Ninties, the gas appliances industry in Korea has grown by leaps and bounds in line with the expansion of supply of gas throughout the country.

In terms of annual production, more than 1.12 million units of gas boilers, 2.17 million units of gas ranges and 200 thousand units of gas oven ranges were recorded at the end of 2002.

Having met the quantitative demand, the gas appliances manufacturing industry  in Korea also has been upgrading the quality of product and its technology has been approved in the international market.

Behind today's success of the industry, I believe, there have been supports from foreign gas companies and sweat of the employees of domestic gas appliances industry, and I am confident that the biennial event "GAS KOREA" also has played a vital role.

Actually, GAS KOREA which has been hosted by the Organizing Committee consists of government agencies, public organizations and associations, has played a role in the development of gas industry by providing not only a place of exhibiting domestic and overseas gas-related products and technology but also a good opportunity of information exchange among participants.

Furthermore, I am expecting much from the upcoming event in a sense that it has been improving in content and scale year by year.

I cordially hope that every gas company in the world will put its product on GAS KOREA 2004 to be held in Seoul, Korea and enjoy the opportunity to strengthen ties with Korean gas industry.
